Some things are not meant to be rushed.
Paithani is one of them.
Woven in Yeola, Maharashtra, its knowledge has travelled across generations — through silk, zari, motifs, looms and, most importantly, human hands.
The craft is learned over years. Not simply through instruction, but through watching, practising and understanding the loom.
The tradition survives because the knowledge survives.
And that knowledge is carried by human hands.

After a decade of global experience in advanced technologies, entrepreneurship and digital innovation, I travelled to Yeola with my parents, Pratibha and Mukund Dhotre, and my aunt.
There, our family reconnected with a legacy of craftsmanship running generations deep.
In Yeola, I witnessed artisans keeping the art of Paithani alive through patience, precision and human hands. Surrounded by the timeless rhythm of the looms, something became clear.
I had spent years in a world of technology, digital innovation and constant acceleration.
Here was another world — one that moved slowly, deliberately, through silk, zari, looms and hands that knew what they were doing.
The two worlds did not have to stand apart.
Standing somewhere between ancient human craft and modern design, we began imagining a different way forward.
A way to carry the richness of India's textile traditions into contemporary life — through Paithani, contemporary textile objects, bespoke work and thoughtful design.
Namaste Paithani emerged somewhere between the two.
1940s: Where it began
Bhau Saheb Dhotre, our Great Grand Father, established our family's textile business in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. We have heard stories, that it was an affluent time in history for our family.
1960s: And then, life moved on
However, the next generations followed modern career paths into science, academia, and global professional journey. Slowly, a well established textile business faded into the pages of our family history.
Some connections remain
Even when the business was no longer part of everyday life, textiles remained part of where we came from. I was told by elderly, that our family was blessed by the lord of the fabric.

Connecting the dots (2024)

"Craft passes from hand to hand. So does opportunity."
— Namaste Paithani & Team
Namaste Paithani brings Indian textile traditions into contemporary lifestyle.
From handwoven Paithanis and bespoke commissions to contemporary textile objects and bulk gifting for businesses and celebrations, our work moves between tradition, design and everyday life.
Our contemporary products and bulk gifting collections are made by women from underserved communities. Through skilled work, they transform textile materials into products for contemporary life — creating opportunities to earn and build greater independence.
For us, this is part of what it means to keep a tradition alive — not simply preserving what came before, but allowing it to create something meaningful today
